Food Shrines celebrate the cycle of soil and water care, food growing, food sharing and food composting where food waste is returned back to the soil. As convivial installations, they make visible hidden processes and forgotten wisdoms, inspiring conversations and actions towards reviving artisanal skills and generating new possibilities for sympoiethic living. In 2014, we were commissioned to be Artists in Residence at the five-day Living Soil Forum in Ytterjarna. Our response was to co-create a Living Soil Shrine. The installation evolved each day as we curated offerings brought by resident growers, chefs, and researchers of the locality, and included creating a vessel of food waste for composting from what the chefs had gathered during the conference.
