We are honoured to be in a conversation with John, his vision and intention,
and Mojdeh’s sacred architectural work of designing an ocean-edge dwelling.

Studio Fabre Hardy is a collaborative ecological arts and design practice. Our natureculture designs evolve within the entangled relationships of a habitat and its diverse ecologies. Through being in place we engage in embodied practices: deep listening, intuitive drawing, tracing desire lines, honouring indigenous lineages, communing with the genius loci of place. Through this collaborative imagination designs emerge which artfully integrate geography, history, natural elements, material installation and plantscapes.

Integral to every design project and artist commission is the crafting of a bespoke ArtistBook. This documents and records the journey of ideas in the making, design and art-making process, the brief and intentions, historic archive material, drawings and sketches, photographs and poetics, writings, and finished material.

Orchid Glade

If you and I were to go
To the water’s edge,
The first water, the still
Water, the edge of thrill and life;
If our feet sank into the soft mud
In amongst the hoof and egg and stalk;
If we squatted there,
Quiet,
Haunches and skirt,
And waited,
Would we fall or step or roll or sink
Into the water?
Would we break the surface tension,
Bend the reed?
How carefully would we enter into the
Perfect cool water
And drop down, fold down,
In absolute
Awe.
