Laser cut steel by CP Wessels of Artvark
As part of her Living Cultures Residency with the Sustainability Institute, South Africa, Miche hosted a sequence of skills-sharing ritual workshops which connected kitchen culture with Agriculture. The second of these, Wild Cultures, introduced the art of fermenting cabbages to a diverse group of people involved in agroecological farming.
Flora responded to these convivial workshops through intuitive drawings that captured the sequence and energies of these contemporary ritual encounters. The then-director of the Sustainability Institute, Jess Schulschenk, was moved to commission a large scale laser-cut sculpture of the Wild Cultures workshop, which was unveiled with a cohort of young farmer apprentices training at the Sustainability Institute.
