Art of Sympoiethics In Print
In July 2022, ‘The Art of Sympoiethics’ is published in the on-line journal The Ecological Citizen. In this article we explore our collaborative arts practice as rooted in an ecocentric worldview in which existence is a continuum of relational and embodied exchanges between ourselves, each other, and the matter and habitats of the animate Earth. Thus our capacity for being/thinking/making/acting is a reciprocal entanglement within this interdependence. We introduce sympoiethics as a participatory consciousness which guides our interactions with soil care, food cultures, thanks-giving rituals and regenerative farming. We share Sacred Mayonnaise, a ritual conducted as part of an installation Everything is Here at the group exhibition Ecovention Europe: Art to Transform Ecologies (2017) in the Netherlands. This work illustrates how the art of sympoiethics as an ecological intervention with food contributes to raising awareness and cultivate an ethics of care in the everyday – a practice in living aesthetically.
